Statuses and error messages
Session statuses
Section titled “Session statuses”Every session in the list and in its conversation shows one of these:
- Starting: the computer is starting the agent.
- Ready: the agent is waiting for your next message.
- Working: the agent is on a turn. Messages you send now wait until the turn ends, except with Codex, where they go into the current turn. See Send messages and files.
- Needs your input: the agent asked a question or wants an approval. Answer it in the conversation.
- Computer offline: the computer running this session is off, asleep, or the CommandChain app on it is not running. The conversation says “Computer offline. Messages will wait for it to reconnect.”
- Needs review: CommandChain could not confirm that a message reached the agent. The conversation says “Review unconfirmed messages before continuing.” See Send messages and files.
- Not running: the agent is stopped. Send a message to resume the conversation with its existing context.
- Status unknown: the computer reported a state this version of the web app does not recognize. Reload the page. In the session list the same state reads Status unavailable, which also covers a conversation found on your computer whose state CommandChain could not read.
In the Workflow panel and in repository status, Status unavailable means the computer has not reported that information recently, for example because it is offline.
Computer statuses
Section titled “Computer statuses”On the Computers page each computer shows:
- Online: the CommandChain app on it is connected. You can start sessions there.
- Offline: it is not connected. Make sure the computer is on and the CommandChain app is running (see Keep the CommandChain app running).
- Status unknown: CommandChain cannot tell yet. Refresh the page.
Error messages
Section titled “Error messages”Starting and running sessions
Section titled “Starting and running sessions”“That computer is offline. Open CommandChain on it (run commandchain-runner), then try again.”
Run commandchain-runner in a terminal on that computer, and follow what it shows. Then try again.
“The selected agent is not installed on this computer. Install it and refresh Computers.” Install the agent on that computer and sign in to it, then refresh Computers. See Supported agents.
“Enter an absolute directory path on the selected computer.”
The directory must be a full path that exists on that computer, such as /Users/you/code/project, or C:\Users\you\code\project on Windows.
“Update CommandChain on this computer, then start the session again.” That computer runs an older version. Update it as described in Update or uninstall.
“Update CommandChain on this computer to restart sessions from here. Until then, Stop the agent and send a message.” Same fix: update the CommandChain app on that computer.
“The selected security mode is not offered by this agent. Refresh Computers and choose again.” Refresh Computers, then pick one of the permission modes the form offers.
“Refresh sessions on this computer and choose an available session.” or “Session discovery expired. Refresh sessions on this computer.” The list of existing sessions is out of date. Refresh it and choose again.
Your account and access
Section titled “Your account and access”“Your sign-in expired. Sign in again to continue.” Sign in again.
“You do not have access to this session or computer. Choose another one, or sign in with the account that connected it.” A computer belongs to the account that approved it. Sign in with that account.
“This session or computer is no longer available to your account. Choose another one or reconnect your computer.” Choose another session or computer. If it was your computer, connect it again.
Connection problems
Section titled “Connection problems”“You are offline. Reconnect and try again.” Your phone or browser has no network connection.
“Could not reach the server. Check your connection and try again.” or “The server took too long to answer. Try again.” Check your network, then try again.
“Too many requests. Wait a moment and try again.” Wait a moment before you try again.
“The server had a problem. Try again in a moment.” Try again shortly. If it keeps happening, see Get help.
Connecting a computer
Section titled “Connecting a computer”“That code was not found or has expired. Check the code. To get a new code, run the install command again on that computer (or commandchain-runner, if CommandChain is already installed there).”
Codes work for 10 minutes. Get a new one as the message says.
“This code has expired.”, “This code was denied.” or “This code has already been approved.” For an expired or denied code, get a new one. An approved code needs nothing more: check Computers to see whether the computer is connected.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”“You have 20 devices registered, the most allowed. Remove a device you no longer use, then sign in here again.” The app has no control for removing a device yet. Get in touch. See Limits.
“You have 2000 notes, the most you can keep. Delete notes you no longer need, then add this one.” Delete notes you no longer need.
